Highlights
  • Works in demanding conditions and retains flexibility in autoclave conditions in temperatures ranging from -60°F (-50°C) to 350°F (177°C)
  • Silicone adhesive provides clean removal from a variety of surfaces
  • Chemical resistant adhesive and backing provides durability in difficult environments, such as anodization
  • Thicker version of 3M™ Polyester Tape 8402, providing more durability and longer wear
  • Thin, low caliper, but high strength polyester film less likely to interfere with machinery
  • Translucent green backing is easily identifiable for splicing applications
  • Meets several aerospace specifications

For anodizing, composite bonding and splicing, use 3M™ Polyester Tape 8403. This translucent green tinted tape is coated with a silicone adhesive that bonds well on difficult surfaces, including silicone coated papers and films. It is chemical resistant and performs under a wide range of temperatures and environments. This tape is a thicker version of 3M™ Polyester Tape 8402.

Resilient Performance

Our 3M™ Polyester Film Tape 8403 is a popular choice for a variety of web splicing, masking and holding applications, particularly those needing good chemical resistance or adhesion to silicone. The thin, high tensile strength polyester backing is abrasion and solvent resistant while featuring a relatively low caliper thickness that is less likely to interfere with machinery processes.

Recommended Applications

Protective overall mask on panels to mild caustic and acid bath etching

Prevent scratching during handling

Holding parts or vacuum bags during bonding processes

Mask for metal in acid or caustic chemical milling baths

Masking parts in anodizing processes

Splicing of silicone coated papers and films

Paint masking of materials subjected to high temperatures

Butt splicing and core starting

Masking the edges of overlap seams in metal bonding process where excess epoxy can overflow

Excellent Adhesion with Silicone

This tape features a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive that is ideal for high temperatures, allowing this tape to perform within a wide temperature range (-60°F/-50°C to 400°F/204°C). The adhesive is long-aging to allow this tape to remain adhered and flexible for up to 3 hours while being used in an autoclave, as flash breaker tape or as masking for acid and caustic baths, among other applications. When finished this tape removes cleanly and easily to eliminate time consuming cleaning processes.
